British Gas parent company Centrica posted half-year profits of £992 million, a day after hitting millions of customers with a record hike in gas bills...... The group upped gas bills by a mammoth 35%, with electricity prices up 9%. This takes annual dual fuel payments to £1,317 - £404 above the beginning of the year.
An analyst said: "We expect all the UK retail energy suppliers...to announce retail tariff increases of about 25% before the end of September."
It is high time the government stepped in to protect is citizens from such high increases when we earn no more now than we did 6 months ago!
The people of the UK cannot afford these hikes to continue!.....Our govenment needs to protect the basic rights of its people.
We, the undersigned, call on our government to undertake a "fundamental rethink" of its fuel poverty policy, with rising gas and electricity prices inevitably leaving more households struggling to pay their bills.
