The UBC Athletic Department has not consulted adequately with many user groups regarding services at the new Aquatic Centre facility.
The UBC Athletic Department is overseeing the construction of a new $40 million facility that presently does NOT include certain amenities and services that are important to the health and enjoyment of senior citizens, long term patrons, students, and global visitors.
The undersigned herein are asking that UBC Administration and UBC Athletic Department officially confirm that the new UBC Aquatic Centre will commence operations that include these essential amenities, as follows:
1. The present UBC Aquatic Centre has a unique jewel in the manually operated steam room. The undersigned want it duplicated in the new facility at the outset. The undersigned want it duplicated in the new facility.
2. A two level sauna that is large enough for community purposes.
3. Use of the 50 meter competition pool in the morning for recreational swimmers.
4. The pool deck to be designed so that fitness classes can still be accommodated.
5. Consideration given to include a Gym area given the major lack of gym space at UBC.
