This petition aims to positively influence the approach the European Commission is taking in its efforts to regulate Complementary and Alternative Medicine across the 27 Member States of Europe.
Standards of education and training being proposed.
The standards that have been agreed by the Steering Group for Accreditation Boards although at this time it could not be confirmed that all of the voluntary registers operate to this standard. The threshold entry route to the register will normally be through a Bachelor degree with Honours which is comparable to the majority of other professions regulated by the HPC. Entry to the register may also be possible through possession of an appropriate Masters degree; this is consistent with other professions including physiotherapy, radiography and occupational therapy.
We agree that standards of training and practice should be applied, As part of that process we would like to see voluntary professional self-regulation underpinned by better public information and/or accreditation of regulators, health and safety and consumer legislation.
But to demand that a hairdresser, who is giving an Indian Head Massage must have Bachelor degree with Honours as a minimum qualification to do so is ludicrous.
While it benefits citizens for governmental agencies to advise on efficacy and safety that information may not address the needs of individuals and presumes that there is only one system for obtaining accurate and beneficial information. That is equivalent to allowing only one religion as the accepted source of truth.
This results in an unfair competitive advantage to multinational corporations, which ultimately limits the individual's access to a quality selection of
Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Also, we are asking the EU to revise (Directive 2004/24/EC)
It came into force 1st May 2011 and it effectively means ALL HERBAL MEDICINE not manufactured to pharmaceutical standard are now BANNED, in Europe. You will only have access to treatments which are Pharmaceutical Drugs based in order to treat your own and your families ailments.
Your Freedom of choice in medicine has being taken away.

We, the undersigned, call on the Irish Government and the European Commission to revise the standards of training and practice they want to apply to the C.A.M. industry.
As part of that process we would like to see voluntary professional self-regulation underpinned by better public information.
(Directive 2004/24/EC)
There is not any evidence to prove that herbal medicine present a significant risk to the public under previous and present legislation, when policed properly.
This petition asks the Members of European Parliament to consider the consequences of this law once again.
We believe that Complementary and Alternative Medicine practioners should be regulated. but that regulation should be fair and ethical.
Demanding that a hairdresser, who is giving an Indian Head Massage must have Bachelor degree with Honours as a minimum qualification to do so is neither fair or ethical.
If you value your access complementary therapies, or if you care about them please take action. Even if these issues seem meaningless to you, consider the people who do care.
Should they be denied the right to the treatment and health maintenance of their choice?
