Australians will have to pay GST on items bought from overseas that cost $1000 or less under draft laws.

Treasurer Scott Morrison on Thursday introduced a bill to parliament that extends the tax to low-value imported goods from July 1, as it applies to those sourced domestically. make supplies of goods valued at $1,000 or less at the time of supply connected with Australia if the goods are purchased by consumers and are brought into Australia with the assistance of the supplier;
treat the operator of an electronic distribution platform (EDP) as the supplier of low value goods if the goods are purchased through the platform by consumers and brought into Australia with the assistance of either the supplier or the operator;
treat re-deliverers as the suppliers of low value goods if the goods are delivered outside of Australia as part of the supply, and the re deliverer assists with their delivery into Australia as part of a shopping or mailbox service that it provides under an arrangement with the consumer;
This has made the online suppliers community threaten to ban Australians from buying from there sites, The big suppliers such as, Amazon, Ebay, Alibaba, Aliexpress, DHgate etc will there fore not be accessible to Australian consumers,This is not right and must be changed.

"We, the undersigned, call on the The Australian parliament/Goverment to eliminate the new law of 10% GST for goods under $1000 brought online.
