According to the Michigan DNR website regarding Black Bears:
Males roam in areas covering 100 square miles, weigh 150-400 lbs and can live 20-30 years. Females roam in areas covering 10-20 square miles, weigh 100-250 lbs and can live 20-30 years.
Bears are usually timid animals when encountering humans in the woods unless they feel threatened, CORNERED or are separated from their cubs. There are plenty of bears in Norwich Township!
A 10 foot high irregular fence line will disrupt their natural habitat and daily patterns. The proposed fencing will encompass over 770 acres. It will increase potential for bears to feel threatened when encountering humans having limited space to flee.
This fencing will pose a greater potential for harm to our families and pets as we engage in hiking, running, biking and all the great Michigan outdoors has to offer!
Please join me, by signing in my effort to ensure NO FENCE FOR NORWICH!
We, the undersigned, request that the Norwich Township Planning Commission does NOT allow a 10 foot fence to be installed.
NO FENCE FOR NORWICH PLEASE!
