Your Excellency,
We would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the case of many Egyptian human rights activists, journalists, lawyers and citizens who have been convicted or falsely accused by the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Egyptian student Patrick Zaki spent 22 months in prison. Mr. Zaki is the victim of unfounded accusations.
Activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah spent a long period of hunger strike to denounce the inhumane conditions of his detention and of all prisoners of conscience.
Mohamed el-Baqer (lawyer), Mohamed “Oxygen” Ibrahim (blogger), Hoda Abdelmoniem (human rights lawyer) and Ezzat Ghoneim (lawyer and human rights activist) are some of the prisoners of conscience unjustly detained and who have suffered physical and psychological torture.
All Egyptian citizens are free to express their thoughts. A Government can not and should not arrest and incarcerate those who express their dissent. Expressing your dissent is a fundamental right.
We ask for strong diplomatic pressure for the annulment of the charges against them, the annulment of the sentences, the possibility for prisoners of conscience to communicate with their lawyers, with their families and above all to be able to receive immediate medical assistance.
We support the great commitment that Egyptian journalists, students, lawyers and citizens demonstrate every day by protecting the fundamental right to freedom.
Thank you for your attention.
