This is a petition to increase the number of healthy businesses in Westwood Village. The Westwood Village area has become home to thousands of families with children. The City of Seattle’s latest data shows the Westwood Village/Roxhill neighborhood has a median age of 37.4, and is comprised of more than 50 percent families. The area lacks healthy food options and community gathering spaces. Westwood Village is missing a business opportunity, as well as a chance to support and improve our community.
We are a group community members in West Seattle who would like to see more healthy, family-friendly, and local businesses at Westwood Village. We, the undersigned, would enthusiastically support these new businesses and recommend them to friends and family.
The Westwood Village area has become home to thousands of families with children. We think that Westwood Village management is missing a business opportunity, as well as a chance to support and improve our community.
We strongly believe that the following features will drive increased traffic to Westwood Village and its existing businesses:
-Healthy fast-food restaurants that cater to busy families
Examples: Evergreen Salads, Homegrown, Veggie Grill, Panera Bread, Chipotle
-Family-friendly local businesses
Examples: Local coffee shops, Molly Moon’s, Trophy Cupcakes
-Family-friendly gathering areas
Examples: New Outer Space Seattle kids' play space, more pedestrian-friendly areas, more outdoor seating, small covered kids’ play area
Many of us currently avoid this area except for quick runs to places like Target and QFC. We would stay to shop longer if there were more healthy, family-friendly options available.
