Data prices are very high in this country as compared to prices of data in other African countries. Our citizens have struggle for so long and it now seems only the working class is being catered for because poor people can't afford to buy data. People spend more than a R1000 on data every month because the prices are just too high. Poor people in rural communities don't even have access to internet cafes because they just don't have the knowledge to use the internet. If data prices can be reduced, it would be very helpful for people living in rural areas so that they can be access internet on their phones. It's time the data prices because 1 gig of data used to last us for a month but because of many things that people have to search for in the internet, it becomes extremely difficult for 1 gig data to last for more than a week.
I call on all South African citizens to sign this petition as a way of showing our dissatisfaction on the prices of data. We have been paying too much for data and we can't continue like this because ordinary people can't even afford to buy data. Unemployed people find it very hard to search for jobs on the internet because they just can't afford to buy data. Most companies are using the platform of online application and it is difficult for the majority of unemployed people to access internet. It's time data prices are reduced to cater for the middle working class as well as the poor people of this country. There is so much information on the internet which require people to have data in order to read the information but the high prices of data is making it difficult for our citizens to access that information.
