Take action: the Second Vatican Council empowered the laity to respectfully voice their deeply held concerns in matters of the Church. We are petitioning Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York to designate the 3rd Intention prayer for victims of sexual abuse and violence for a significant length of time.
The 3rd Intention is part of the Universal Prayer of the Catholic Mass. The Roman Missal describes the series as:
1. for the needs of the Church;
2. for public authorities and the salvation of the whole world;
3. for those burdened by any kind of difficulty;
4. for the local community.
Dedicating the 3rd Intention will help our church to heal in a multitude of ways. Our brothers, sisters, and children will know that we are behind them. The laity will finally be able to do something for those who are suffering. The clergy will be reminded that these acts are an attack on the priesthood and the ultimate price is the loss of souls. And everyone will be reminded of the power of prayer.
We the undersigned request that His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York dedicate the 3rd intention of the Universal Prayer, on an ongoing basis, for the innocent victims of sexual abuse.
We appreciate that the Archdiocese has been more transparent about the discovery of these crimes and offered compensation, which is way to acknowledge these transgressions, there is more to do. These vile crimes cause victims and their families a lifetime of agony. These horrible acts against innocent people has torn at the hearts and faith of us all.
We the laity want to show our wounded brothers and sisters that the abuse they are suffering is not okay and that we care. We want to fight against evil with in our church with demonstrative prayer. Please support our plea and make a commitment to take this step towards healing our Catholic family.
