ΚΑΤΑΣΤΡΕΦΕΤΑΙ Ο ΧΩΡΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΒΙΒΛΙΟΥ - GREEK AUTHORS FACE CUT-THROAT TAXES

ΠΡΟΣ ΣΥΓΓΡΑΦΕΙΣ, ΜΕΤΑΦΡΑΣΤΕΣ, ΕΠΙΜΕΛΗΤΕΣ, ΔΙΟΡΘΩΤΕΣ, ΚΑΙ ΟΣΟΥΣ ΑΛΛΟΥΣ ΣΧΕΤΙΖΟΝΤΑΙ ΜΕ ΤΟ ΒΙΒΛΙΟ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ

Στην Ελλάδα, τα νέα φορολογικά μέτρα τσακίζουν κυριολεκτικά τους δημιουργούς και τους συνεργάτες. Η φορολογία που μας επιβάλλουν είναι τόσο υψηλή και παράλογη, που αρκετοί από εμάς θα υποχρεωθούμε να σταματήσουν να γράφουμε. Δηλαδή θα μειωθούν τα βιβλία ποιότητας και φυσικά τα βιβλία ακαδημαϊκής θεωρητικής υφής. Ουσιαστικά υποχρεωνόμαστε να έχουμε ένα άλλο επάγγελμα για να μπορούμε να είμαστε συγγραφείς.

Το ίδιο συμβαίνει ήδη με τους μεταφραστές, τους επιμελητές, τους διορθωτές και τους γραφίστες ή όσους φτιάχνουν εξώφυλλα. Ελάχιστοι πλέον ασχολούνται αποκλειστικά με αυτά τα επαγγέλματα καθώς δεν θα μπορούν να βιοποριστούν. Επιπλέον, οι συνταξιούχοι συγγραφείς, εάν θέλουν να εκδίδουν τα έργα τους, είναι υποχρεωμένοι να έχουν βιβλία Β΄ κατηγορίας και να αφαιρούν τα όποια κέρδη από το συνολικό ποσό της σύνταξής τους.

Συνάδελφοι και συνεργάτες, ο μόνος τρόπος για να τους αντιμετωπίσουμε είναι να οργανώσουμε ένα κοινό μέτωπο. Αν καταφέρουμε να μαζέψουμε πάνω από 2.000 υπογραφές, θα αναγκάσουμε την κυβέρνηση να μας ακούσει. Μέχρι στιγμής νομίζουν πως οι δημιουργοί δεν διαμαρτύρονται, γι’ αυτό και παίρνουν τόσο σκληρά μέτρα.

Ας τους αναγκάσουμε να ακούσουν!

PETITION IN SUPPORT OF GREEK AUTHORS, TRANSLATORS, EDITORS,
PROOF-READERS, AND ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN BOOK PRODUCTION

The Greek Parliament recently introduced new tax laws which are crushing authors and all those involved in the book world in Greece. The taxes imposed are so high and unfair that many of us will be forced to stop writing altogether. As a result the output of quality literature as well as of academic books will be reduced dramatically. We have all been forced by these measures to take on second jobs, merely to allow us to continue writing while staying alive.

The same unbearably high taxes have already been applied to freelance translators, editors, proof-readers, graphic and book designers, and to all the related professions. Today, very few in these fields are working full-time, since it is totally impossible to make ends meet. In addition, authors with a pension from other jobs are now obliged to deduct from those pensions any earnings from books they may write in the future.

We appeal to all colleagues in the book world in Greece: the only way to face this disaster is to create a united, common front. If we manage to gather more than 2,000 signatories to this petition, we shall force the Greek Government to reconsider its actions. The Greek Parliament has –up to now– been under the false impression that ‘creative people’ are not inclined to protest, and accordingly Greek MPs have felt free to take such tough measures against us.

Let us unite and compel the Greek Government to listen to us!
