Zebra Crossing, near St. Josephs Church, Sallybrook, Glanmire, Cork, Ireland
- Target:
- Cork City Council
- Region:
- Ireland
The R639 is the main road that runs through Glanmire. There are dedicated crossing points at either end of the village by the Grandons Fuel Garages near the Glashaboy Woods development and the other crossing point near Colaiste on Phiarsigh secondary school.
Unfortunately for members of the public that need to cross the R639 from housing estates on the St. Josephs Church side over to the Hazelwood Shopping Centre (Supervalu, Bean & Leaf, Hairdressers, Primary & Secondary Schools etc..) the focal point of Glanmire and back, they must take their life in their hands. This crossing is done on a daily basis by school-children of all ages, elderly, sight-impaired, young and old.
There has been a number of near misses and incidents involving pedestrians.
We are kindly asking for your support to help us in our efforts to get a Zebra Crossing installed on the R639 in Riverstown, Glanmire (in the vicinity of St. Josephs Church and the stream which has existing steps down from Cois na Gleann) to help pedestrians safely cross the R639 road. This is a risky road to cross and we believe a Zebra Crossing may well prevent a terrible accident or even worse the loss of life.
This crossing is done on a daily basis by school-children of all ages, elderly, sight-impaired, young and old. It would make a massive difference to our community.
There has been a number of near misses and incidents involving pedestrians crossing this road. You can help make Glanmire more walking friendly and a safer place for walkers of all ages and abilities. Thank you so much.
