Women's Right to Land and Housing in Nigeria

In recent years, women's land and property rights have received considerable attention by the UN system. In particular, the Global Platform for Action of the World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995 acknowledged women's right to inheritance and ownership of land and property.

As this century comes to a close, the right to land, housing and property for women is receiving more attention than ever before. As a result of women activists bringing this issue to the attention of the international community, there is a growing recognition globally that women's lack of rights in, access to and control over land, housing and property constitute a violation of their human rights.
