The legislation related to this matter is The Citizenship Act, 1955, which has been amended by the Citizenship (Amendment) Acts of 1986, 1992, 2003, 2005, 2015 and 2019.
The amendment also relaxed the residence requirement for naturalization of these migrants from eleven years to five.[8] Immediate beneficiaries of the Bill, according to the Intelligence Bureau of India, will be 31,313 refugees: 25,447 Hindus, 5,807 Sikhs, 55 Christians, 2 Buddhists and 2 Parsis.

We the Global Indian Diaspora in various parts of World, strongly support the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019. We applaud the Indian Government led by PM Narendra Modi for this Humanitarian legislation to help the destitute minorities who have been forced to flee from Three Islamic Theocracies of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh because of Religious Persecution.
Thousands of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis have fled to India in last few decades to save their religion, the Honor of their Daughters ! this is simple one time Humanitarian legislation to reduce the waiting period to 5 years from 11 years, for these minorities who have been living in India as refugees for last several decades. It will enable them to become citizens of India and pursue the life, liberty, education for their children, economic opportunities and religious freedom; guaranteed to all citizens of India. It does not take away anything from any citizens of India of any religion.
