We Support Emergency in Pakistan

Pakistan is an Islamic country with a muslim majority population of 98%. Its constitution fully supports religious practices which people are free to perform any where and in any form. The Government of Pakistan, especially President Pervez Musharraf’s government, provides full freedom to perform religious activities not only to Muslims but to followers of other religions as well.

It may be of particular interest to readers that Pakistan’s economic position has improved considerably during the last seven years, after the government was taken over by Pervez Musharraf. Pakistan’s GDP has been 8% for the last several years. Needless to mention, this target has not been easily achieved by any country. However, the dynamic leadership of President Musharraf and his vision to continue providing support to boost the country’s economy has made this possible. Among other things, Pakistan’s stock exchange market has risen from 2000 points to 14000 points depicting a sizeable growth. Additionally, the infrastructure developments in communication, oil and gas, and education sector are also remarkable. This growth is a result of accurate, timely decisions made by the government.

For the last one year Pakistan is facing serious challenges to its sovereignty because of the foreign support of terrorism in Pakistan. Foreign elements continue to support the so-called terrorists, their main target being destabilization of our country. As we all know, most of the terrorists belong to regions outside Pakistan and some countries are extending their covert support to them behind the curtains while playing their game on our soil. This game was supposed to be played in Afghanistan and not in Pakistan.

The continuity of development is under threat by terrorist activities, and some religious and political parties continue to advocate terrorism as seen by the Lal Masjid fiasco in Islamabad in 2007. During the operation and at present also, some ex-judges and media persons are still supporting these elements under the false banner of human rights as is blatantly visible to the general public. After announcement of emergency in Pakistan, overall public is calm and there is no demonstration in the country.

We, as a nation, have supported the world in their “War on Terror” and now, when we are facing threats of terrorism, country leaders conveniently ask us to end the emergency and bring democracy? It is essential to mention that after 9/11, the US govt. took stringent measures to save its nation from terrorist activities. Now when Pakistan is facing similar threats to its sovereignty, we hope that the supporters of the “war on terror” will understand the gravity of the situation and lend their whole-hearted, conscious support to the declaration of emergency in the country.

The Qur’an says in Surah 47, verse 17:
