The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's office has purchased property to build a new correctional complex. This property on Veterans Boulevard in Thibodaux, is immediately adjacent to a residential neighborhood, directly across the street from a school and a public park.
We feel that such a facility should not be located near these types of places. If there will be a new jail built, now is the time to relocate to a more secluded area.
Our surrounding parishes, Terrebonne, Assumption and St. Charles to name a few, all have their jail located far away from any residential area, school or park.
We, the undersigned, call for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff to relocate the new Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex to a more secluded area.
The chosen location on Veterans Boulevard is immediately adjacent to a residential neighborhood. It is across the street from a school and a public park.
We disagree that such a facility should be located near these types of places. Our surrounding parishes, Terrebonne, Assumption and St. Charles to name a few, all have their correctional facilities located far away from any residents, schools or parks.
