WE NEED TO SAVE HEBREW ACADEMY

Founded by Rabbi and Isabel Lipner more than 45 years, Hebrew Academy has been the jewel of the Bay Area’s Jewish community and one of it’s most vital and important institutions. In addition to education provided by the school, it was involved in Jewish communal life and served as second home for hundreds of Jewish refugees from the former USSR.

Today, there are over 50 Jewish families that came to be because of Hebrew Academy and there are thousands more that have an enormous amount of gratitude for everything that the founders, faculty and administration have done for them.

Hebrew Academy is the testimony of a heroic commitment to the future of Jewish community by Rabbi & Mrs. Lipner, as well as Real, Katzovitz and Kampner families. Along with other founders, supporters and funders of this school we witnessed the realization of the great vision that every Jewish child could have an opportunity to receive an excellent general education along with engaging, text-based traditional Jewish education that insures Jewish continuity.

The Board of Directors of Hebrew Academy has articulated their decision to close the school for very compelling reasons and in no way that they could be blamed for it. But, this sad news has galvanized the Russian Jewish community and there is a group of current parents and the alumnae of the school led by Rabbi Shimon Margolin that has a plan how to avert closure of the school and continue to operate it with the same mission, name and educational philosophy on the basis of effective management and transparency.

By signing this petition, you add your voice and support to this grassroots effort. The vision and mission of Hebrew Academy is relevant today as much or may be even more today than it was 45 years ago.
