We are all well aware of the heavy commute traffic that streams through our neighborhood between Ygnacio Valley Road and Treat Blvd. As many of you are also aware, a significant group of neighbors have been trying to work with City staff for a long time to have our concerns addressed. Our homes are situated in a neighborhood whose main street (Walnut Blvd) is a curvy, 2-lane road, with very few sidewalk sections for pedestrian safety; including students attending our neighborhood school.

The passive signs the City agreed to post prohibiting thru-traffic are unenforced, ineffective and confusing. One at the north end of Walnut Blvd, at the canal crossing, suggests it applies only to 3-ton trucks; while the one posted near WCI tells drivers thru-traffic is prohibited, and U-turns are not allowed. Meanwhile, navigation apps continue to send high volumes of traffic through our neighborhood; despite the fact there is a parallel 5-lane corridor with sidewalks only one block west (Oak Road).

The NO-RIGHT TURN restriction sign at the intersection of Walnut Blvd. with eastbound Ygnacio Valley Road that flashes form 4-6 PM was intended to discourage and reduce cut-thru traffic from the #680 Rudgear exit. But this installation had an immediate negative impact on our neighborhood that has only increased exponentially over the years. Walnut Blvd. was never designed to accommodate such traffic volumes. The impact to our neighborhood is more than an inconvenience or negative impact on real estate values. It is a matter of public safety, not to mention the character of our neighborhood.

Traffic engineering studies and multiple discussion efforts with the City by a large group of concerned citizens have failed to resolve the problem. It's time to be pro-active and formally request removal of the NO RIGHT TURN sign restricting afternoon commute traffic onto what is THE major east-west corridor that is meant to accommodate such traffic volumes (with pedestrian sidewalks, as well).

We request removal within 60 days of this Petition's submission.

The more citizens sign this petition, the more effective force we will have to compel action.
