Wakool River fish kill: Charge the Murray Darling Basin Authority for gross dereliction of their duties
- Target:
- Environment Protection Authority NSW
- Region:
- Australia
The Murray Darling Basin Authority failed to release water into the Wakool River on or about October 10th 2010, downstream of Thule Creek to the Edward River Junction, despite the dire warnings from local fishermen and their own experience of a similar incident 12 months ago.
As a result of their neglect tens of thousands of fish and other marine life died in the 7 days from October 10th 2010. This enormous fish kill of 100 year old Murray Cod and other native fish must be accounted for.
This avoidable environmental vandalism must never happen again.
We, the undersigned, call on the Environment Protection Authority New South Wales to charge the Murray Darling Basin Authority with the gross dereliction of their duties resulting in a fish kill of enormous propensity and seek punitive damages of five million dollars.
