On June 24, 2008, the Physical Services Committee of the Orange County, NY Legislature moved in executive session to send a late offer from "Easy Equities" for the purchase of the 258 acre site known as Camp LaGuardia to vote. It's reported that Jacob Selechnik, a New York City landlord with thousands of housing code violations, is behind Easy Equities and their unusual all-cash offer for the property.

Citizens of Orange County are concerned about the history of Mr. Selechnik as a poor landlord, which has been documented in several newspapers, and Easy Equities' planned housing density of 1000 living units for this parcel. These concerned citizens believe Mr. Selechnik to be an unsuitable steward for land in their community. They also find the proposed housing plan to be a detriment to the beauty of the county and a drain on its resources.

Citizens are urging their legislators to vote "No" on July 2 on the offer from Easy Equities, and to consider other offers, which include a plans for a university and fewer housing units.

We, the undersigned citizens of Orange County, NY, petition our county legislators to vote "No" on July 2, 2008 on the "Resolution authorizing the County Executive to negotiate a contract with Easy Equities, Inc. for the sale of certain County property formerly known as Camp LaGuardia, located within the Towns of Chester, Blooming Grove and the Village of Chester".

The Vote "No" on Sale of Camp LaGuardia to Easy Equities petition to Orange County, NY Legislature was written by John Allegro and is in the category Local Government at GoPetition.
