Your Majesty,
We, the undersigned represent hundreds of Jordanian physicians who live in the USA and Arab countries; most of us were trained in Jordanian Medical Schools then completed or currently completing advanced training in medical specialties in the US. We are licensed to practice medicine in Jordan after fulfilling all the necessary pre-requisites required by the Ministry of Health. We represent an outstanding group of physicians, many of who are pioneers in their field, and have achieved the highest levels of training, experience and US board certifications in all specialties. Many of us hold academic positions in major US universities as well as leadership positions in various US institutions. Jordanian physicians in the US are highly regarded by US physicians and considered to be the crème of the crop.
Your Majesty,
Unfortunately, Jordan has not recognized the American Board since 2002 as per new regulations. The current system precludes many well-qualified physicians in all specialties from going back to Jordan to serve the country we love and favors other countries like the Gulf States where US boards are highly regarded. The current policies of the Jordanian Medical Council (JMC) may give priority to practice medicine to holders of some Arab medical boards over well-qualified Jordanians with US training and US Boards.
Currently, Jordan is undergoing outstanding growth in medical tourism in the region and the Jordanian medical infrastructure is in great need of well-qualified physicians to serve and build up the country. Our goal is to make our country, like what your Majesty has planned and worked for, a medical hub in the region.
Many experts consider the current US training system the best in the world, in all aspects, where training programs undergo strict accreditation processes and tight scrutiny. The US Board certification is recognized in all countries around the world, although it is not even mandatory for physicians to start practicing in the US itself.
Your Majesty, we are quite optimistic that your enlightened attitude and progressive outlook will solve this issue which has become like a nightmare to many Jordanian physicians, who would like to go back home to practice close to their parents and families.
