Currently Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe and leader of the ZANU-PF is under house arrest following the coup d'etat by the county's military.
It is suggested that either South Africa or Namibia will grant this political dictator and genocidal leader political asylum.
We at Front Nasionaal believe this is an absolute disgust and disrespect to the millions of lives that he and his political party have destroyed over a period of 3 decades.
We believe that he should stand trial and be prosecuted for the atrocities committed by him during his reign of terror.
During his tenure as president of Zimbabwe the world bore witness to the total downfall of a country once regarded as the breadbasket of Africa.
With the announcement that president Robert Mugabe and his wife, Grace, was suspended from the governing ZANU PF in Zimbabwe, it is now a matter of time before his removal or resignation from the office of president of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Mr Mugabe owns a number of properties in South Africa and with media reports that his wife considered asylum in Namibia following the overthrow of their government on 15 November, we have reason to expect that the couple might apply for political asylum in either Namibia or South Africa. We are concerned by the fact that the EFF already urged the South African government to grant asylum to Mugabe.
We, the signatories of this petition, being citizens of either South Africa or Namibia, herewith urgently demand of the governments of the two republics not to consider any such request under any circumstances.
The fact that the Mugabes were removed from office by their own people and their own party stands as testimony to their corrupt and irresponsible government which brought suffering to their own people. Both mr and mrs Mugabe have an extensive record of hate speech and racist behaviour towards their own citizens and those of other countries.
It will be an embarrassment for us to have them stay in our countries.
We wish you to regard this petition as an urgent appeal to your governments to distance yourself from the persons of the Mugabes and everything they represent.
