Synopsis: County Road 13 (Twin Lakes Road) in Elk River is one of the most dangerous roads in Minnesota. Over the last 5 years between County Road 33 and Line Ave, there have been numerous serious accidents, especially on the curves in front of Twin Lakes Elementary. Several of these accidents have tragically been fatal to residents of our community.
Recitals:
1.) The significant increase of residential development in this part of the county IS NOT compatible with a road that has dangerous curves, no stop lights, no stop signs, no reduced speed limits, and no round-a-bouts. (RATTLE STRIPS ARE NOT THE ANSWER)
2.) Twin Lakes Elementary is parallel to one of the most dangerous roads in the state. (WE MUST TAKE EXTRA STEPS TO PROTECT OUR KIDS)
3.) This road has been a "known" hazard for several years and has a history of tragic accidents with devastating consequences.
We, the undersigned, call on the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners to take immediate and drastic action by making the following change (s): 1.) Reduce the speed between Line Ave. and Viking Blvd to 35 miles per hour. 2.) Change the intersection at 193rd and Cty. 13 to a "3" way stop. 3.) Change the intersection at Viking Blvd. and Cty 13 to a "3" way stop. 4.) Change the intersection at Cty. 33 and Cty. 13 to a "3" way stop.
Additionally, We, the undersigned, call on the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners to "eliminate" the curves in front of Twin Lakes Elementary by constructing high quality round-a-bouts. Round-a-bouts have been proven to reduce the incidence of fatal traffic accidents.
