Since the re-routing of SR-54 though our small town, the increase of truck, tractor trailer and multi axle commercial and personal vehicle traffic has had a dramatic negative impact on our small town.
At the bottom of a long grade, the added noise from brake retarders and lack of speed enforcement during the day has left many parents and elderly people feel unsafe.
We, the undersigned, believe that everyone has a right to a safe community and protect the lives of our neighbors and children.
To make our roads safer we demand the following actions be implemented in the village of Locustdale, PA and the immediate surrounding area:
1. The speed limit within village limits and the road between the village and the Borough of Ashland be changed from 35 to 25 for all vehicles with a single and combined gross weight equal to or greater than 10,000 pounds.
2. Brake retarders not be allowed within a one mile radius of the village limits.
3. A non-truck route be implemented on SR-2027 (Lavelle Road) between the villages of Locustdale and Lavelle, except local deliveries.
