Township Roads

Hello Anten Mills Residents:

I have been a resident of Anten MIlls for 20 years. Over the past 3 to 5 years I have noticed a deterioration of winter maintenance on the stretch of road between Hwy 26 & Horseshoe Valley Road on Wilson Drive. As soon as you cross over Hwy 26 on Wilson Drive (towards Anten Mills) it’s like you have entered a different world. The roads are much more snow covered and slippery.

I have done some research and I have found that it is not my imagination. Simcoe County is responsible for the clearing of snow and ice between Sunnidale Road & Hwy 26 on Wilson Drive. The Township is responsible for the road between Hwy 26 & Horseshoe Valley Road. The MTO designates each road with a “class”. Class 1 being the highest class (Hwy 400) and 6 being the lowest class of road.

Wilson Drive between Sunnidale Road & Hwy 26 is a class 2. Wilson Drive between Hwy 26 & Horseshoe Valley Road is a class 4. I am told that the class of road is based on traffic that the MTO monitors and sets. Horseshoe Valley Road out to Hwy 27 and Hwy 27 are both classed as a 3.

I have witnessed multiple accidents between Hwy 26 & Horseshoe Valley Road on Wilson Drive and would like to suggest to have this stretch of road changed from a class 4 to a class 3 or higher. I feel traffic has increased along this stretch of road due to GPS direction and the fact that there are more residents as well. On behalf of the residents of Anten Mills I would like to propose to bring my concerns to council.
