In 2011 and 2012 many Kirkland residents received a letter from the Town of Kirkland advising them that they were “illegally” connected to the town’s storm sewer system. Town Council has known about this problem for the past 30 years. Their own inspections identified the problem many years ago but they decided to say nothing and, most importantly, do nothing.
The Town of Kirkland has now decided to hold the homeowners responsible for the repairs. To date over 150 homes are affected. The exact number is unknown but it is growing as Kirkland continues to inspect more homes. Your letter could be in the mail!
The Kirkland Citizen Association encourages ALL citizens of Kirkland to sign the petition that follows on line, as over 2,800 Kirkland residents have already done in person.
The Town of Kirkland must accept the political, financial and moral responsibility for their inaction over the past three plus decades and resolve the cross-connection problem in the same manner as Pierrefonds, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and Verdun (Nun’s Island) have already done having assumed 100% of the cost of repairs.
