The Mill Park Soccer Club was established in 1991 by the local community who were passionate about sharing their love for the world game – Soccer, and bringing an awareness amongst Australian families living in the area about this fantastic game that can be played by anyone, whether they are rich or poor, very young or older and in their teens or even older adults. Players came from Mill Park and all surrounding suburbs like Thomastown, Bundoora, South Morang and Epping.
What started as a fledgling club with very few members back in 1991, has over the years grown to be a landmark club that is highly regarded in the local community as one that treats all soccer lovers as equal and the passion to play soccer very affordable in the member fee structure, so that everyone can afford to be a part of the Mill Park SC family. This became possible only because of the countless hours devoted for the betterment of our club by a group of selfless volunteers. We are very proud of this legacy.
Currently we have 27 full time volunteers who are involved actively either as coaches, committee members or general volunteers.
As with any soccer club that dares to dream, over the years we have faced many challenges too, both financial and administrative, but none as big as the challenge we are facing right now. Our club’s ONLY soccer pitch is in urgent need of repairs, so that it can accommodate the 17 teams across all age groups consisting of 278 full paying members.
To: The MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS of the WHITTLESEA CITY COUNCIL
Subject: Your local community soccer club needs your help, urgently
The condition of our soccer pitch in large parts is practically unplayable in the best of weather due to the wear and tear, and in the cold months it has virtually become unplayable. The ground is in urgent need of maintenance and development.
Our club needs your help very urgently!
In the past, a few of the neighbouring soccer clubs that also fall under your jurisdiction have benefited greatly with the generous help of the Whittlesea Council who have always demonstrated a high level of commitment towards developing sports facilities within the local community. And we are very hopeful that you will help us too.
At your convenience, our committee members would like to welcome you to a tour of our club facilities and show you the areas of improvement that need to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
Warm Regards - from all member families, players, coaches, assistant coaches, committee members, general volunteers and our Club President, Jack Kyriacou (millparksc@bigpond.com / 0400 034 473).
