Telstra workers have been ambushed by management and told that nearly a third of them will be made jobless. There has to be a better way. A good government would step in and urgently bring together management, workers and other key stakeholders to work out an alternative and save these jobs.
The CEPU (Communications Union) & CPSU (Community & Public Sector Union) are calling on the Federal Government to urgently intervene to stop Telstra from sacking 9,500 people – nearly 1 in 3 Telstra workers.
Unless the Government acts to stop Telstra putting profit before people, these job losses will devastate Telstra workers, their families and the local communities that these jobs support.
Telstra isn’t just an ordinary phone company, it’s a former public asset that still provides essential telecommunications services such as 000, and other vital services in rural and regional Australia.
The Federal Government needs to intervene now.
