The board of Sheffield Wednesday FC to resign with immediate effect

Following the resignation of Lee Strafford as chairman of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club on 17th May 2010, many supporters of the club demanded a fresh start after over a decade of decline both on and off the field of play.

Over the course of those years, several directors, chairmen and team managers have, realising they have contributed to the downturn in the clubs fortunes, resigned their post. However three directors still remain - Ken Cooke, Bob Grierson and Geoff Hulley.

Between them, the three above-mentioned men have held posts at the club for a number of years, and their combined service and dedication to the cause is appreciated, however many Owls' fans believe the only chance the club has of moving forward is by introducing fresh blood to the boardroom.

In their time at the club, the directors have -

- overseen three relegations in a decade
- overseen the club going from being one of England's top footballing establishments to a 3rd Division side struggling to sign players on free transfers
- overseen a loss of £31m in the clubs finances in just 13 years
- signed massively underachieving and constantly injured players like Gilles De Bilde, Andy Hinchcliffe, Gerald Sibon, Phil Scott, Phil O'Donnell, Simon Donnelly, Wim Jonk and Francis Jeffers on wages we the club couldn't really afford
- spent the clubs money on putting their name towards suing the clubs own fans (and subsequently being laughed out of court)
- stood by as the chairman labelled fans 'scum', 'cretin' and one person a 'venomous bitch'
- stood by as the chairman advocated violence towards a set of fans

UPDATE - On 23rd July 2010 the club was served with a winding up order by HMRC over an unpaid tax bill amounting to £550,000. All the board members still remain in their positions.

UPDATE - On 7th September 2010 Wednesday were reported to be just 24 hours from entering administration due to a £1.1m tax bill not being paid. At the last minute the board were bailed out when the Co-operative bank loaned the required money to pay the bill. The board members still remain in their positions.

UPDATE - On 17th November 2010 Wednesday attended the High Court over an unpaid tax bill. The Owls were seconds from being wound up until the judge gave the club another 28 days to find investment. The board members still remain in their positions.

The undersigned believe that their positions have become untenable, and if the board members mentioned still have a shred of love for the club, a shred of decency, and a shred of pride in their work, they will resign their posts as directors, and make way for three new directors to take their place.
