This petition is aimed at improving the Music industry Business in the City of Ndola to begin with... if it works it can also work in other provinces. The main goal is to provide employment and Youth empowerment through the Performing Arts industry in Zambia. And this can only happen through the ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture.
A wise person once said that ask not what the Government can do for you but what you can do for the Government. Some people wonder and ask if the corruption of Music Piracy will ever end. Truth is, we all have to play a part if that is to be the case. For we are all men born in a fallen world, and so, now that the problem is noticed, what do we do about it? How we address it as Zambian Citizens is the next and most important question. We believe that one way to help end the piracy of our Music is to make it FREE and accessible to all. We already have laws and bills to protect against the copyright and redistribution of legally registered Artists in the Mainstream Music industry; however we need more than that if we are to see better results. From the title of this petition it’s easy for one to try and dismiss this idea. So the following are some calculations i came up with below after doing some research: According to two Google search results, the 2019 Census by the World Population Review shows as follows:
1. 400, 914 People (Open Google Search Results)
2. 451, 246 People (Worldpopulationreview.com)
So let’s say the Population is 400,000 thousand people flat for easier calculations henceforth.
(Please note that this Prototype is based on the Underground Music industry as the Mainstream is
already self-sufficient through Business partners of different stakeholders).
IF there are 400,000 People in the City of Ndola who all (possibly) contributed and paid their monthly Music Tax at say K2, multiply those figures and you’ll get 800,000.00 Kwacha. That’s the money that can be made although the population number is only an estimate. If upcoming Artists like Rappers, Singers and Choirs for instance, were made part of this performing Arts program, given they qualify by having a full Grade 12 certificate first and foremost, and at least 3 credits or better they all can benefit from this Plan. So suppose 3 days of the week (Preferably Friday, Saturday and Sunday) were picked as work days for Musicians on a monthly basis? This would mean that, said Musicians have been made Civil Servants by the Government just as the Teachers, Nurses and other officials we have. This would mean creating some kind of Employment through Entertainment & Arts. Making all underground music Free and Taxing it would create employment not only for the Youth and Singers of today but, even other licensed people in the Arts and Culture Ministry who all benefit from the FREE consumption of Music on a daily basis. And everybody does benefit from free music: Young and old alike.
