Supporting the disabled during the time of COVID crisis

In our country over 26.8 million is differently abled. While there's discrimination amongst 2.21% of disabled population when it comes to job security or disability work benefits.

The Disabled people have been facing additional costs and huge risks as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Without any external funding or support, they need to manage their household and personal requirements. As a result, they are having to make a choice between two important items such as food and medicine due to limited resources. They are also having to put themselves at risk by going to local shops as they cannot afford the minimum fund needed for delivery. The government must implement comprehensive economic rehabilitation package based on the Act for Guidelines on ‘Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction’ issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in October 2018.

Disabled people in India have been expected to survive on zero benefit levels for years. It is furthermore unacceptable that now, in a time of global crisis, they are being left completely behind.

Our proposal to the Government of India is :

....To allocate separate quarantine centres for people with PwDs.

.....To provide financial support to the disabled.

....To provide basic food necessities at their doorsteps.

....To assure them job security with allotment of quota system and this should be consistent during pandemic situations.

.....To encourage remote working for the disabled during all times to reduce their health risk.

.....To provide assistance through local communities if their primary caretaker is quarantined.

"Let's not leave the disabled people behind in this fight again the pandemic"

Will you sign the petition to ensure that the disabled people are not being pushed into living without basic medical access? Let's all sign to ensure the safety of those to are differently abled by confirmed financial provision, allocated quarantine centers for them along with job and health security.
