The self-employed in the UK have typically been very hard hit financially during the coronavirus outbreak.
For many income has reduced to zero with no prospect of this increasing in the near future.
Amongst the categories of workers affected includes film and TV workers, photographers, taxi drivers, the creative industries and many others.
The chancellor has announced that the self-employed can now access in full universal credit at a rate equivalent to statutory sick pay for employees.
The rate for employees is £94.25 per week which is far lower than most self-employed earn and if this is the limit of assistance many will struggle financially.
We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to provide adequate financial support to the self-employed during the coronavirus crisis.
The financial support we are looking for is to mirror the 80% of income that employed people have in place.
