Senior girl scouts going for their gold awards are given, by council, mentors that are strangers to them, their parents, and leaders.
There is no concern on the part of girl scouts that they are introducing a stranger into their lives. It has been told to us that the mentor is not obligated to introduce themselves to anyone prior to any contact with the girls.
We, the leaders, co-leaders, and parents want girl scouts of america to understand our legitimate concerns and initiate a meet and greet at every monthly gold award interview for 20-30 minutes so that the parents as well as the girl can meet the mentors and ask questions.
This being done, the mentor is no longer a stranger and a parent and leader can feel more at ease with letting this person in their daughters' life.
