A few weeks back I was contacted by WVLT Local 8 News (Casey Wheeless) asking for a comment from Penny in relation to these charges. At that time Penny did not have representation (other than a public defender) but she has since retained one and is ready to speak about the issue and show how these charges are completely erroneous and borderline harassment.

Further, the state is requiring Penny to pay $10 per day / PER ANIMAL to the Humane Society where the animals are being housed until the investigation is complete. A payment in the amount of $7000 is due on Tuesday which represents the total owed for the previous two weeks and ultimately leaves Penny with little, if any, hope of ever getting her animals back because she cannot afford to pay the amount due and has been advised that if she fails to make the payment, her animals will be considered ‘abandoned’.

Her Preliminary Hearing is scheduled on 10/29/15 at which time a judge will decide if there is even enough evidence to go forward with a trial. It seems unfair, and against justice in general, that a person should face losing his/her animals or property simply because they’ve been accused of crime but not found guilty. This is especially true where there is more evidence exonerating the individual than proving his or her guilt.

WVLT Local 8 News Please come to the court hearing to uncover the truth and the unfair publicity you have created against this innocent women live on your cameras to restore her dignity.

We, the undersigned, call on WVLT Local 8 News to attend and uncover the truth regarding the charges brought forward for animal cruelty against union county resident Penny Merritt.

We are concerned about the unfair actions taken by the police and Union County Humain society Animals Shelter accusing this innocent woman without evidence.

The Support Penny Merritt uncover the Truth petition to Friends and concerned residents of Union County Tennessee was written by Penny Merritt and is in the category Civil Rights at GoPetition.
