Music education is paramount to student development and academic abilities.
Studies show that involvement in music improves standardized tests scores, as well as increasing reading proficiency and memory skills.
Music also helps students, regardless of socioeconomic background, to flourish, graduate from high school, and students are less likely to be involved with gangs or substance abuse.
Many music programs in our public schools are in danger of being cut due to funding and students' fully rounded education is hurt as a result.
We, the undersigned, demand that legislators and school administrators strive to save music education programs in our public schools.
