The proposal for the extension of Meadow Lane car park in Eton has been around for over 25 years. In 2011 with the shortage of resident parking and the further loss of resident parking spaces through the redevelopment of Rafts Boathouses the Brocas Residents’ Group lobbied the developer and the Borough for the extension of this car park as a resolution to resident parking and other parking issues in Eton.
The Borough agreed to this as a project to be financed partially by developer contributions and Bewley Homes gave £45,000 towards the fund. Eton College, the owners of the land for the existing and the proposed extension agreed to lease the required land to the Borough and help progress the project early by offering to finance the capital expenditure to be recouped in the lease over a period of time. Eton College has brought this project successfully through the planning stage recently.
However, now over 3 years on since the agreement to extend the car park, RBWM have not decided how this essential piece of infrastructure for Eton is to be financed.
In the meantime through the shortage of resident parking residents often have to pay car park charges, if even a space can be found, Windsor and Eton businesses suffer through lack of parking, residents from Eton Wick have difficulty finding parking to attend the doctors, and Eton Porny School and Pre-school parents experience problems dropping-off/picking-up their children. In short, the absence of parking is detrimental to all those who visit and live and work in Eton.
We, the undersigned, petition the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to agree to the financing and progress to completion of the Meadow Lane car park extension within a year.
