Lidl have recently submitted a planning application for a new discount foodstore at Mere Park, Newport.
There is a need for a deep discount food retailer in Newport, which would claw back expenditure that is currently leaking to such operators outside the area.
Lidl stores encouraged linked trips with the town centre shops as their limited range of goods necessitate ‘top-up’ shopping. This will be made easy via the free bus service between Mere Park and Newport town centre.
Up to 25 new retail jobs will be created for local residents at a difficult time for the national economy.
Mere Park is the most suitable location for a new foodstore in Newport due it’s accessibility and natural linkage to the town centre.
We, the undersigned, fully support Lidl's application for the provision of a neighbourhood food store at Mere Park, Newport.
