Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has approved building new nuclear sites for enriching uranium, the latest step in expanding Iran's nuclear program in defiance of the United Nations Security Council. Tehran has also harbored hatred and terrorism particularly in Iraq.

Since June 2009, the Iranian people showed the world that they fully reject the Islamist government ruling their country. In the past 3 decades, Iranian rulers have executed tens of thousands report on March 30, 2010, recent developments in Iran have prompted fears that the Iranian authorities are once more using executions as a tool to quell political unrest, intimidate the population and send a signal that dissent will not be tolerated. At least 388 people were put to in 2009.

Yet, Iran's largest opposition group, The People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), remains the main target of the Iranian repression; tens of thousands of its memebers have been executed in Iran and many of its leaders have been gunned down abroad. On July 28, 2009, the Iranian regime's proxies in Iraqi attacked Camp Ashraf in Iraq, the home of about 3400 Iranian refugees who are members of the group killed 11 and injured hundreds of these dissidents.

In March, an encouraging effort was done by the majority of the members of U.S. congress who co-sponsored H. Res. 704 calling for the protection of Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf.

In June 2010, nearly 100,000 people gathered in support of this movement in Paris and called for the protection of those Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf. In July, a US Federal Court ruled in favor of the main Iranian opposition.

Our government should not contemplate a military intervention in Iran or continue the unfruitful concession to the mullahs. Instead, we must side with the Iranian people and their organized opposition.
