Shanda and Jamie Geneser lost their daughter Hannah, 4, two years ago when she fell out a window.

The Genesers told their story again to lawmakers on the House Judiciary subcommittee on Monday and asked for their backing of the new law that would change safety requirements for window screens in new and remodeled residential buildings.

The couple said the new safety requirements help prevent accidents like the one that killed their daughter.

Screens required in most buildings in Iowa can hold up to about 13 pounds before they collapse, but the new requirements in the SF 381 bill would increase those requirements.

The subcommittee passed the bill on Monday, but Wednesday the Genesers said they were told by Baltimore that he would not add their bill to the list of bills to be debated by the committee.

A statement that Chip Baltimore released on Wednesday April 3, 2013: "I sympathize with the Genesee (Geneser) family and understand their desire to see this bill move forward. At this time, however, we haven't seen data leading us to believe this particular bill is the best vehicle for preventing these terrible accidents from taking place. I am willing to continue to work with the family to determine the best course of action in the future."

CHIP BALTIMORE, DID YOU JUST STATE THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ENOUGH DATA?! A CHILD LAID AT REST ISNT ENOUGH DATA FOR YOU? IS IT GONNA TAKE ANOTHER CHILD FALLING TO CHANGE YOUR MIND? A IOWA FAMILY HAS REACHED OUT TO YOU TO HELP SO THIS DOESNT HAPPEN AGAIN AND YOU SAY, "NOT ENOUGH DATA?" FELLOW IOWANS ESPECIALLY FAMILIES AND PARENTS PLEASE HELP THIS FAMILY IN NEED TO HELP AVOID ANOTHER ACCIDENT WITH CHILDREN. THEY ARE OUR FUTURE HERE IN THE STATE. LETS SHOW CHIP THAT US IOWANS ARE CONCERNED AS WELL AND WILL HELP THIS FAMILY MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS BILL AND NOT WAIT "IN THE FUTURE."

We, the undersigned, call on Judiciary Committee chair Chip Baltimore to move this bill (Hannah's Law) forward to help avoid any other accidents that can happen in this manner.

It shouldn't take another child laid at rest to change your mind.
