As you all know, over 700 people come to Freaky Weasel Events every month! Is it for the bands? The music? Whatever the reason, for years and years so many people have made brilliant memories at the Freaky Weasel Events and now they may be about to fade!!
People aged 14years and older (yes, even adults) attend regularly and see it as something to do! It is true that there is little in the local area for teenagers and young adults, especially for those interested in live music! Freaky Weasel keep so many in a controlled area and help keep adolescents who want to go out on a Friday night off the streets and into somewhere they can enjoy themselves and socialise with others safely!
Since the move to the new college, Freaky Weasel hosted only one event and was flooded with complaints.
For those of you, who did complain / were disappointed by the last event, please consider, the situation was out of the hands of those behind Freaky Weasel and they want the opportunity to make it back up to you!
Fact is, the capacity has always been around 700 people and due to the move more than the usual amount of people showed up, expecting this new venue to be bigger and expecting for all to be able to enter. Sadly, the new venue did not come with a bigger capacity and so many were turned away.
Other complaints included the fire alarm (which was unfortunate but out of the event organiser’s control), door staff, and sadly, the locals of the area surrounding the college complained of noise and disruption/ unruly behaviour from those who were travelling to and from the event.
Freaky Weasel are looking into ways to improve the nights, listening to your suggestions, i.e. using a ticket scheme and I.D. scheme to ensure all can enter with no complications.
However, the vast amount of complaints has caused a lack of support for Freaky Weasel and now it faces the possibility of having to reduce its capacity further and hold only small gigs rather than the usual scale events, or even the possibility of closure!
They need YOUR SUPPORT in order to show that they still have your interest and it will be worth-while re-opening the events as normal!
If you have attended a Freaky Weasel event or just value it in your community, and would like to see another held soon, then please sign this petition! We need as many people to sign this as possible!
We, the undersigned, call on East Durham College, Easington District Council and any other partakers involved to save Freaky Weasel by supporting it, and making sure measures are met for the nights to run again.
