With Adderall addiction rates higher than ever, the University of Alabama at Birmingham should implement a prevention program with the goal of informing students, decreasing Adderall addiction rates, and providing a more stable learning environment.
An average of 20-30% of college students have admitted to abusing Adderall; with that being said, is it is the Dean's job to ensure students are provided with the most stable environment possible.
The goal can be accomplished with a prevention program that would cover various topics such as dangers of Adderall abuse, the side effects of Adderall, alternative medications the provide the same effect but less harm, and the difference in side effects of patients with and without ADHD.
As students, we call on the Dean of UAB to create a prevention program in order to lower rates at which students abuse Adderall.
