Join with DOGS NSW Members to express your concern to the NSW Government about the consequences of the proposal in their Companion Animal Taskforce Discussion Paper for a "Breeder Licensing Scheme".
DOGS NSW Members support responsible breeding practices, and share the concern of the NSW Government, and its Taskforce about substandard puppy sellers that operate without restriction or regulation of any kind.
But a “one size fits all” breeder licensing scheme is unfair on, and not in the best interest of the already well regulated Members of Dogs NSW and their dogs.
The consequences of a proposal to impose harsh and costly licensing of all breeders will create unreasonable hardship, and an unfair burden on Dogs NSW registered breeders.
Such a proposal could threaten the future of a vast number of these responsible dog breeders, and could well take away the public’s opportunity to obtain puppies from some of our State's top breeders who in many cases, have dedicated their lives to breeding for health, breed type and temperament.
Dogs NSW registered breeders already have in place a well regulated system which provides for:
Education and training prior to the granting of a Breeders Prefix.
Proof of residential address, verifying actual location of approved breeding premises.
Compulsory microchipping prior to registration of puppies.
A Code of Ethics which sets the highest standards in breeding practices, and commits all Dogs NSW registered breeders to compliance with all relevant legislation with an investigation program to deal with breaches of the Code.
It is unreasonable to impose a further tier of registration/and or licensing on Dogs NSW registered breeders who are already required to have best practice for the health, care and maintenance of their dogs.
We the undersigned, stand in support of Dogs NSW Members' opposition to a NSW Government "Breeder Licensing Scheme"
In so doing, we demonstrate our commitment to the continued breeding of dogs by the responsible breeders throughout NSW who are Members of Dogs NSW.
We call on the NSW Government to exempt Dogs NSW registered breeders from any requirement for further regulation or licensing.
