Thanks to everyone who signed and supported this campaign.... unfortunately all protestations were ignored by New Milton Town Council and they went ahead with their plans anyway.
Long Meadow on Barton-on-Sea on the edge of the New Forest has for over 100 years provided a a open space for walkers, dog walkers, families and children to enjoy the natural features of meadow, stream, trees and small woodland.
The local Council is proceeding with a plan to put an artificial play area in Long Meadow under the impression that Long Meadow does not conform to the requirements of providing enough play facilities for children in the local area.
A 'consultation' process has taken place which gave people the choice of different types of play area in the Meadow but not the choice of no play area at all. Despite local protests about this the Council are still proceeding.
The Meadow already provides enough opportunity for unstructured play and such an introduction would inevitably change the character and the type of play that has been enjoyed by the people and families of Barton-on-sea for generations.
It would also risk the misuse of the facilities with the consequent loss of peace and tranquillity which is currently enjoyed in the neighbourhood.

We, the undersigned, are against any top down proposal to introduce an artificial children's play area into Long Meadow and call on New Milton Town Council to have a proper consultation process with it's residents which includes the right to say No.
