Commonwealth Animal Hospital's Veterinarians bought their building with sufficient adjacent parking they owned. Under the current Plaza-Central Pedscape Plan, their land and parking will be taken through the Condemnation process by the City so that the City can use tax dollars to add parking farther away which the Hospital cannot control.
Accessibility is critical to all patients, but especially those who are less ambulatory. Staff has been directed by City Council to develop a "compromise solution" and we support one which will protect the owners' property rights.
We the undersigned, encourage the City of Charlotte to negotiate in good faith with Commonwealth Animal Hospital concerning the Plaza-Central Pedscape Plan.
Commonwealth Animal Hospital is an important member of our business community and, in order to help us, especially if a companion animal is injured or less ambulatory, it needs to retain control of its parking adjacent to the Hospital.
The Hospital complied with local ordinances when it received its Certificate of Occupancy/License to do Business from the City of Charlotte in 2002, and we ask that its parcel of property be protected from any future actions by the City (i.e.: changing the parking requirements for owner-controlled parking, removing its ability to do business by creating any retroactive ordinances, etc.).
Commonwealth Animal Hospital has always been a good business neighbor and we want it to be able to stay in this vibrant community and not be materially harmed by the Plaza-Central Pedscape Plan.
