Over 6,000 people search for a bone marrow transplant in the US on any given day. These bone marrow transplants have become the national standard for treating many types of leukemia, lymphoma or other life threatening diseases. There is a special call to donate by people of diverse ethnic backgrounds including: Black, Indian-American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Hispanic and people of mixed Heritage.
The test to join the National Bone Marrow Registry is a simple cheek swab. And contrary to common belief, bone marrow can be given more easily than that of blood.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Federal Government of the US to educate and inform people of the need for bone marrow typing and donation.
