The act of animal cruelty is looked upon too lightly by New York. The current law states that a person who tortures or cruelly beats, hurts, mutilates, or kills any animal or deprives any animal of necessary food or water is guilty of a misdemeanor, which is punishable by imprisonment for no more than a year, or fined for no more than one thousand dollars, or by both.
Animal cruelty can and should be better prevented because it is possible. A change that can happen by raising the stakes and consequences for those who deserve to be punished. Animals deserve justice, its time to stop looking the other way.
We take a stand and pledge to join the fight against animal cruelty and the protection of animal welfare.
