Every year 100 Billion single use plastic grocery bags are used in the United States of America. That is approximately 31688 bags per second. At most only 1% of plastic bags are recycled. The majority of these plastic bags are disposed of in a landfill, where it will take 500 years to degrade.
Even then the plastic has only photodegraded. The plastic still continues to poison the environment and is never integrated into the biosystem.
We, the undersigned, call on the United States of America to stop the production and use of single use plastic grocery bags.
