Louisville Metro Council has passed a Zero-tolerance noise policy on restaurants in Jefferson County. No noise is to be heard outside a 50ft circumfrence from the establishment. The first offense enforced on anyone breaking the policy is a $2500 fine. Continued violations could result in lose of liquor licence or right to operate business. The Louisville Metro Council is moving forward with this plan because they believe there is a correlation between loud noise and violence and see this Zero- tolerance noise policy as a way to crack down on community violence.

We, the restaurant and bar workers, entertainers and good citizens of Jefferson county call on the Louisville Metro Council to Stop the Zero-tolerance noise policy on restaurants in Jefferson County! By enforcing a $2500 first offense fine you are going to directly affect local small buisness, employment, the Louisville economy and night life in a negative way. We challenge the notion that there is a direct correlation between loud noise and community violence and there for this puts an undo burdon to earn money on restaurant / bar owners, their employees, musicians, comedians and entertainers across the board. Please stop the madness before it gets started!
