The Irish government have proposed to reduce the speed limits on all Irish Motorways to 110km/h.
This is not a policy for road safety its an environmental policy suggested by the environment minister not the department of transport.
There is a massive amount of people in this country who commute long distances everyday.
To reduce emissions the government could focus their attention in getting jobs to other parts of the country not just Dublin. More local jobs and services equals less cars on the roads.
We have a great motorway network and a reduction in speed limits will only increase commuting times for all.
This measure will also turn the entire motorway network into a giant speed trap.
We call on the Irish government and opposition TDs not to consider the proposal to reduce the Speed limits on Irish Motorways on the grounds of environmental emissions as this measure is not in relation to road safety and will only increase the commute times of ordinary workers.
