Most recently, for online programs at UBC Faculty of Dentistry have been employing methods of informing students that they are failing by issuing generic and blanket emails.
Despite the fact that these grades are actually generated and conveyed as a percentage grade to students, UBC insists on issuing these generic blanket email statements.
These generic and blanket emails statements lacking a current calculated percentage to reflect where the student stands are confusing. However, the fact that they are being relied upon as an effective and legitimate by UBC appeal committees and senate is troublesome as it exploits a students right to acaemic provacy.
We are asking that the practice of issuing blanket and generic emails to all student group members be stopped and that the faculty adhere to the academic standards of informing students in a private and confidential manner.
Also that faculty inform us of our grade in a numeric format as it is ultimately calculated and not as a verbal statement.
