I love Dovedale infants and juniors school, so mush so I wasted no time in naming Dovedale as my 1st choice for my son. We all want the best for our kids & I welcome the amalgamation of infants and juniors BUT, I am saddened and disappointed at the current proposal to increase the number of pupil's by 230.
Those who know this school will be shouting "how, where ?" I as many others are concerned, not only about the future educational environment for our kids but, also the overall disruption & chaos it will cause to the local residents and out community.
The traffic flow in this area is already unacceptable. The local authority suggest the increase is to accommodate local families less than 1 mile from the school & that they will walk to school! Sorry but, that is rubbish!
I live less than 0.2 miles from the school, I work full time & I have to drive past the school to drop my child off as many other parent's do. It is simply naïve to think or suggest traffic will not increase.
Notwithstanding the obvious traffic issues that will come with the additional 230 pupils, logistically how can they accommodate these numbers? There is NO space! The playground is already limited, the reality is they will have to build up! I accept we need to create more places for the increase in the number of children. However, I DO NOT accept that Dovedale school is the rational or in deed practical choice.
The local authority closed 2 schools in south Liverpool because they say they were surplus to needs, clearly this was & is NOT the case. There is a need but, Dovedale cannot accommodate the proposed numbers without compromising the community it is in, or more importantly their pupils to which, they owe a duty to provide a safe, suitable and purposeful environment to allow they to learn & grow into the best they can be.
The expansion of Dovedale is NOT the answer. There are alternative schools with sufficient space in south Liverpool within a stone throw from Dovedale who could readily accommodate these numbers.
Please show your support to protect our community, environment and stand against an already increasingly high level of traffic on our roads and sign this petition.
We, the unsigned, call on Liverpool city council and Liverpool education department to stop and reconsider the proposed extension of Dovedale infants and primary school to facilitate the proposed increase in the number of pupils by 230.
